What Is an Authoritative DNS Server?
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a globally coordinated, decentralized, hierarchical naming system for computer networks, servers, or other resources associated with the Internet and/or a private intranet. It links different information with domain names normally assigned to each of the involved entities. This is done by an authoritative body known as the DNS or the Domain Name Registration . An IP address is a string of numbers that uniquely identifies a computer or domain. Each computer has its own IP address. A DNS server is authoritative and keeps record of all domain name registrations and other relevant information. These records are stored in a database called the WHOIS database.
